Day 18: Taunton to Dawlish

After a comfortable night of much-needed rest in the Days Inn at Taunton services, I set off for 45 mins of slogging up steep hilly lanes to meet Pa in the tiny village of Clay Hidon. We then cycled through lots of lovely lanes in the sunshine through the remainder of Somerset until he turned back at Kentisbeare, which although named, really didn’t count as a village! The highlight of our ride was whizzing through a ford on our bikes, which I have never done before.

I then continued on towards Exeter and Dawlish via some faster roads (which blissfully were much flatter!) and then a gorgeous cycle path alongside the Exe estuary for the last 16km into Dawlish.

65km, 700m climbing
